Executive order puts public waters at risk to benefit select few

I agree with Senator Richard Blumenthal: Trump’s latest executive orders calling for reviews of national monuments and sanctuaries are likely a façade aiming to eventually put our public lands and waters at risk for the benefit of a select few.

Without long-term protections, this nation’s publicly-owned marine places and resources will fall victim to those who stand to profit, at the expense of the public trust that benefits all citizens.

In the face of this administration’s attacks on our natural heritage, we must protect the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument – a unique, historically important, ecologically valuable, and simply irreplaceable marine area – for now and future generations.
